Banff is a unique ski destination. The town is set in Banff National Park and provides access to three amazing mountains, Lake Louise, Sunshine Village and Mount Norquay. The area has some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever ski – that’s why it’s one of Canada’s national treasures. The three mountains offer fantastic skiing for all abilities and the area has one of the longest ski seasons in North America.

If you stay in Banff you’ll enjoy the lively and friendly atmosphere with plenty of shopping, a large selection of restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. Most of the hotels are located in and around the main street on Banff Avenue or in the quieter Tunnel Mountain area, which sits above the town. There is a regular resort shuttle bus service that takes you round all the attractions and to the ski resorts.
If you’re looking for somewhere quieter to relax after your day on the mountain, you can also consider staying in Lake Louise.

Mount Norquay is just a five minute drive from downtown Banff and offers some enjoyable skiing. It has a great nursery area for beginners, tree lined runs and some adventurous black diamond runs. The advanced skiing is often overlooked here … so it’s great on a powder day and the mountain also has night skiing every Friday night.
Sunshine Village is 25 minutes away from Banff. This is a gem of a resort in its own right with 107 runs and three mountains here. Mount Standish and Lookout Mountain offer a good mix of terrain for all abilities and the third mountain, Goats Eye, is a magnet for expert skiers.
Lake Louise is the largest of the three ski areas and is a world class resort in its own right. It’s worth making the trip, which is about 45 minutes by car, as the skiing and the views are awesome. All three resorts are covered on the one lift pass.

A regular on the world cup circuit – Lake Louise has fantastic skiing for all abilities with a variety of cruising for intermediates on the front side and some great powder bowls for advanced skiers to enjoy. The views are absolutely stunning everywhere you go – so it’s definitely worth catching the transfer shuttle in the morning and making the trip to Lake Louise.
