Located in the breathtaking Jasper National Park in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Marmot Basin is surrounded by some of the most majestic mountains in Alberta. This is Canada’s most northerly ski resort and the drive to the resort takes you through the Icefields Parkway which is one of the most scenic highways in North America. Jasper National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the views en-route and in the resort are amazing.

Marmot Basin is renowned for its friendly, laid back mountain vibe and the slopes are generally quieter than the other Alberta resorts. There’s no waiting in lift lines here – so you can really enjoy the sense of space, surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks.
The skiing at Marmot Basin has something for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities. The mountain is fairly evenly split between novice, intermediate, advanced and expert terrain. There’s long, winding, tree-lined trails, perfectly groomed cruisers and wide open high alpine bowls offering 86 runs of varying abilities spread above and below the tree line. The skiing is accessed by 7 lifts, including the Canadian Rockies Express – a high-speed quad chair, which is the longest in the Canadian Rockies.

Advanced and expert skiers will love the new back bowl that has opened in Marmot Basin. This new bowl offers an additional 45 acres of north-facing wide open off-piste style bowl skiing within the new ski area boundary. Known as Tres Hombres bowl, this extended area offers skiers access to the steepest terrain in Marmot Basin, as well as its longest uninterrupted fall-line. The bowl has five new designated runs; three black diamond and two double black offering powder filled chutes, steep pitches and 367 metres of vertical descent.
There’s a good range of facilities and dining options in both the base area and on the mountain at Marmot Basin. There are no lodgings at Marmot Basin and all the local hotels are based in the town of Jasper, about 20 minutes away on the regular shuttle bus.

Jasper is a real Rocky Mountain town steeped in history dating back to the early fur trading settlers. Known locally as the ‘Big Friendly’, Jasper lives up to its reputation as a relaxed friendly mountain community full of rustic charm, friendly shops, bars and restaurants. One of the ‘must try’ signature experiences in Jasper is the Maligne Canyon Icewalk where you explore the fascinating local ice cave system.
