Whistler Blackcomb is one of the world’s most exciting ski resorts and an absolute must ski destination for all skiers and boarders alike.  There really is something for everyone here from long snow-sure intermediate trails for graceful groomers to snow bowls and glaciers for powder hounds.

When it comes to the ski area Whistler is second to none in North America for its sheer size and variety of slopes. Rising high above the village the twin mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb offer fantastic skiing for all abilities.

First timers and novices will find a great selection of gentle introductory slopes and simple green and blue runs, including runs located high on both of the mountains.  Intermediates will relish the huge number of options to play on from glorious groomed cruising blues to more challenging yet achievable black diamond trails.

For the more advanced there is plenty to get excited about; from energy sapping double black diamond thrills to knee trembling bumps, powder chutes and tree skiing. There is plenty on offer above and below the tree line on both mountains.  The glacier terrain is extensive and the bowls are simply stunning.  There are further adventures on offer too, with Heli and Cat skiing both easily accessible.

What makes Whistler one of the best ski resorts in the world isn’t just the impressive mountains, fantastic snow record or the vast ski area but the layout and atmosphere in the Village.

Whistler consists of four main base areas;

Whistler Village is the most central area located at the base of Whistler Mountain with gondolas rising to both the mountains.  It is the heart of the resort, mostly car free and has the majority of the shops, restaurants, bars and clubs.

Whistler Village North is connected by road and pedestrian bridge to the main village.  You may be slightly further out but some great accommodation deals are available.  Here you will find excellent hotels, plenty of shops and some great night spots.  You are between 5 to 15 minutes walk to the ski lifts in Whistler Village, or there is a free shuttle bus which runs until late.

The Upper Village runs down the side and around the base of Blackcomb Mountain.  It offers plenty of ski-in/ski-out accommodation and some of the best hotels in Whistler can be found here.  There is a cosy little village which has some excellent restaurants, bars and shops.  Whistler Village is a pleasant 5 – 15 minute walk or a 2 minute ride on the regular shuttle bus.

Whistler Creekside is located a five minute drive down valley from Whistler Village.  There is good ski-in/ski-out access on a fairly easy blue run and the base here has its own gondola that connects you to Whistler Mountain.  Creekside is quieter than the main village, which may suit families. It also has a good selection of restaurants and shops and there’s a ski school based here. When you want to explore Whistler Village just hop on the bus service that runs up to the main village.

Whistler is almost as famous for its apres ski as it is for its skiing.  The GLC at the base of Whistler Mountain is a favourite place after a hard day on the mountain, as is Merlins at the base of Blackcomb, but there are plenty of bars and several clubs to keep you entertained until the early hours.

The resort also boasts an eclectic mix of restaurants too – there really is something to suit every taste and every budget.   You can find almost every style of food in the resort from amazing steaks to sushi, including a number of family friendly restaurants.

Off the slopes there are a number of activities to consider including dog-sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.  For thrill seekers there is also the amazing Ziptrek, an exhilarating journey through the trees through walkways and zip wires located between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain.

If you’re looking for something a little more laid back then Whistler has plenty to offer including a romantic horse drawn sleigh ride combined with a fondue,  a number of delightful spas and of course plenty of shopping opportunities.
