It’s easy to see why Whistler is consistently voted the #1 ski resort in North America. Whistler has it all – both on and off the slopes.  It’s one of our favourite resorts and we love skiing here.

There’s so much to enjoy in Whistler, so we have showcased our top five reasons we think you’ll love skiing here too.

Whistler is the largest ski resort in North America

When it come to selecting a ski resort for your next holiday we know size matters.  Whistler is one of the biggest ski resorts in the world, with over 8000 acres and 200+ trails to enjoy.  It’s also the only North American resort where you can ski on a glacier.  The sheer scale of the resort is a magnet for skiers and riders and both Whistler and Blackcomb mountain offer plenty of terrain to suit every ability.

Whistler has a long snow-sure season

Whistler has an annual snowfall of around  500 inches (41feet), which guarantees some excellent snow-sure skiing.  The resort opens mid November, which makes it a great choice for early season and Christmas ski trips.  The main ski area stays open to mid April and the glacier on Blackcomb Mountain is usually open until mid May.   Whistler never disappoints.  The snow on Canada’s west coast is plentiful and experts love the resort for its deep powder days!  The resort also has great slope grooming and intermediates and beginners will love carving up the freshly groomed corduroy.

Whistler has two mountains to explore

Whistler has two incredible mountains to explore.  Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain are easily accessible from both the Village and from on the mountain.  The Peak to Peak Gondola provides a scenic Gondola ride across the valley between the two mountains.  At 436 metres, this is the highest lift of its kind and is in the Guinness book of world records.  It’s also one of Canada’s top tourism attractions.  The Gondola travels 3km in around 12 minutes and the glass bottom Gondola provides jaw dropping views.

Whistler is great for families

Whistler is a child friendly resort and is a great place to learn with a fantastic ski school programme for young ones and newer skiers.  One section of Whistler mountain is a dedicated space for children to learn the basics without having to share the run with more advanced skiers.  There is also a family friendly area on the mountain, accessed by the Emerald Chair with low gradients and low skier traffic which makes it the perfect area for the whole family to spend time perfecting their turns together.

Great Apres Ski

Whistler is almost as legendary for its vibrant Village.  Whistler village is car free with a wide selection of shops, boutiques, spas, restaurants and bars all within easy reach within the pedestrian friendly village.  The restaurants offer everything from fine dining to deli snacks.  The Apres’ scene is lively and you can choose from early evening live music in the slopeside bars or dancing in the nightclubs.
