Whistler Blackcomb has just announced a major investment for the resort which will see a brand new Gondola and two new chairlifts installed in time for next season (winter 2018/19).

The historic investment plan will see the resort’s owners, Vail Resorts, invest CAD$66 million in faster lifts to allow guests to enjoy more time on snow with faster access to key areas on the mountain.

The most notable investment is the introduction of a new 10 person Gondola from the Upper Village at the base of Blackcomb Mountain.  This new Blackcomb Gondola will connect with the existing Peak 2 Peak Gondola adjacent to the Rendezvous Lodge at the top of Blackcomb mountain.  This new development will see the Peak 2 Peak Gondola become the first three-gondola connection in the world.

The new Gondola will replace the existing Solar and Wizard chairs and increase uphill capacity in this area of the resort by an expected 47%, which means faster access and more laps in your ski day!

In addition, the existing 3 person Catskinner chair, that serves beginner and intermediate terrain on  Blackcomb, is also getting upgraded to a 4 person high speed quad chair.

On Whistler mountain a new six person high-speed chairlift is to be installed as the new Emerald Express Chairlift, which will increase uphill capacity by a third.  The new chair will make doing laps in the bowl which is designated as the Family Ski Zone a lot easier for intermediates and beginners to enjoy more time on the snow.
